Jwan Yosef's paintings explore both formalism and autobiographical themes. His subject matter plays around the notion of dualism, a constant search for approval and the process of an initiation. Working within the frame of in-between states, identities and the (un) importance of belonging.
He works in a stripped down approach to painting and the process of making and unmaking. Whether it is scraping down paint layer-by-layer or dismantling a stretched piece of canvas it is all thoroughly self-referential.
