Paola Estrella is a multimedia artist born in Mexico City and based in London. She has a master’s degree from the Royal College of Art in Contemporary Art and studied art direction and mixed media at Central Saint Martins.
Estrella works with painting, mixed media, video, installation, and performance. Speculative fiction and self-discovery are central to her practice through which she conveys notions of intimacy, desire, and becoming. She is interested in diving into the blurred limits between the real and the imagined, the external and the internal world, and the public and the private, to explore how these affect, impact, and shape social conventions, gender roles, identity, and our notion of reality.
Estrella's work has been shown at White Cube Gallery as part of Tomorrow:London, at Saatchi Gallery in collaboration with CW+, at Matts Gallery as part of Mattflix and EverythingForever, at the Franz Mayer Museum, at the Museum of Mexico City, at Out Sight Gallery in Seoul, Korea, at Zhou Brothers Art Gallery in Chicago, at the Annual Festival of Post-pornography and Feminism, among others.
