SDNA / Window Wonderland Hogarth Rd

Dec 2025

This winter, The Bomb Factory Art Foundation completed Window Wonderland, a new community arts programme created in partnership with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and developed with SDNA, resident artists at The Bomb Factory. The workshops took place at Response Community Projects, a centre that supports vulnerable residents in Earl’s Court through services including a community food bank, as well as offering classes and activities for the local community.

The project brought local residents together to create a series of illuminated artworks that will transform shopfronts on Hogarth Road and Hogarth Place into a public winter art trail. Window Wonderland set out to strengthen people’s connection to the area in which they live, work or spend time. Through hands-on workshops, participants were invited to share their own stories, memories and impressions of Earl’s Court and to help shape how the neighbourhood is represented visually. The workshops contributed to a growing collection of light-based artworks that reflect both the history of Earl’s Court and the everyday life of the community today.

Across the programme, participants explored the people who bring character to the streets. They took inspiration from encounters with shopkeepers, café staff, community workers and long-term residents, and developed expressive portraits through observational drawing, illustration and collage. Storytelling prompts encouraged conversations about the places we return to, the people we recognise by face, and what makes a neighbourhood feel like a community. The resulting works capture a lively cross-section of local characters and the connections that shape Earl’s Court.

These artworks will now be displayed as illuminated pieces in shop windows along Hogarth Road and Hogarth Place, offering unexpected, celebratory glimpses of familiar faces in the heart of the neighbourhood.
