IMPOSSIBLE BEAUTY - Alex Beattie at The Bomb Factory Covent Garden

We are excited to announce our first exhibition of the year. IMPOSSIBLE BEAUTY  is a solo show of print and textiles by artist Alex Beattie.

The artist depicts spaces of refuge, devotion and renewal. He states that each work acts as a portal to a glimpsed queer utopia of magic, geometry and ritual. Beattie creates scenes which can only exist in the celestial realm: the colours are too pure, and the patterns so complex as to be impossible. These are visions of an alternate dream world created from the perspective of the Other. Set against his own dark feelings of abjection these are places of healing. The works echo our world, dealing with life, death and struggle, but also rebirth and redemption. Using the visual markers of Disney, Pop Art and consumer products he creates new visual languages to engender new mythologies. Whilst our journey through life maybe difficult, and inevitably we all turn to dust, Beattie states,

“We leave behind echoes of ourselves and our dreams. We carry impossible beauty in us, and we are not wasted. The Journey is always worthwhile”.
